Ockham Collective Presents: Carnivorous Plant Society Live at Frieda Margolis
Come to Freida Margolis to hear New Zealand's favourite psychedelic jazz band take you on a journey from the streets of Mexico City to the mountains of Asia then straight to the depths of hell.
Leader Finn Scholes will be blowing Mariachi trumpet riffs ... possibly while playing tuba, vibraphone, piano and organ.
Finn will be joined by his polymath-musician mate, Michael Barker - until recently one of Melbourne's top session drummers and percussionists for much of his professional career. There he played Tim Finn, Neil Finn before touring the world for half a decade as part of John Butler Trio.
The duo will be joined by Tam and Eric Scholes - Tam on guitar and Eric on bass. Both are accomplished musicians with Eric having studied classical double bass at Baltimore University.
What Carnivorous Plant Society do do is provide ear blistering entertainment, imaginative funk, touches of world music, prog rock, spaghetti western mariachi moments, and just about anything that’s fun and fast and furious, including yes, jazz and traces of trippy tones, spacey but not spaced out.
They’re amazingly multi-talented musicians weaving infectious songs with impeccable timing.
